NERI OXMAN

Let me introduce you to Neri Oxman. She has one of the most intriguing careers I have encountered. After completing her service working for the Israeli Air Force, Neri attended medical school in Jerusalem. However, she later decided to study architecture. Now, Neri Oxman is a professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab, where she founded and directs the Mediated Matter research group.

Her team researches the intersection of computational design, digital fabrication, materials science and synthetic biology, and applies that knowledge to design.

Oxman’s goal is to augment the relationship between built, natural, and biological environments by employing design principles inspired and engineered by Nature, and implementing them in the invention of novel design technologies. I think that the power of her work lies in using art and design as the freedom to be able to experiment with new technologies that can later be applied in multiple areas of application including architectural design, product design, fashion design, as well as the design of new technologies for digital fabrication and construction.

Take the time to be amazed by her projects in the following video. Also, take a look at her website and buy her book. It will be worth your time.

Also, If someone can get me on a date with Neri Oxman, bless you. I will be very grateful. If not, no worries. We will be working together in a few years.
